Father's day is just around the corner and moms and kids are scratching their heads trying to think of what dad wants...a golf club, a sports shirt, a tie... well, there are many great ideas for those with the funds. But for smaller children who want to give their dads a gift that they did themselves... here are some awesome ideas for absolutely no money!!
1. The Card
This is an easy one, take a piece of paper, heavier paper like construction paper may be easier to work with and would appear to be more like a card. Fold the paper in half and turn it so it opens like a book. With crayons, markers, pens or colored pencils make the front of the card. It's probably best to start off with HAPPY FATHER'S DAY. Then its a good idea to have a picture. You can cut out a picture and paste it on or draw one yourself. Choose something fun or interesting. A picture of a car, a picture of you, a picture of football, baseball, golf clubs, computers...
Next, inside the card you want to write a greeting on the right side. You don't have to make a rhyme, but if you can its sometimes fun. Sometimes just a fun or sincere statement is good. Like, You Rock Dad or You are the Best Dad Ever!
After the standard message, write a personal note. Something like: Love, your son... or Love Me
On the back of the card don't forget to put your own 'Hallmark' <~ thats a big word meaning your own mark. I like to put my initials inside a circle.
Be creative and have fun.
2. Fun Cutouts
We've created an easy and downloadable cutout that can be assembled without glue and only requires some safety scissors. Have a parent help you print the document, it's better if you can print in color and if you have heavy paper instead of just plain paper that would help your cutout stand up better. Then simply cut, fit the pieces together and you have an instant and free gift!

3. Office Supply Toys
You may need to look for a while to get some of these supplies, but with a little help gluing, you can make a very cool X-Wing Fighter. Simply look at the picture and the items in the supply picture and piece the toy together.
The Idea:
What you need:
Note: You will need to remove the binder arms from the large clips and use them on the smaller clips to make the wings.
4. Write a book.
This is pretty easy. All you need are some blank pieces of paper and construction paper for the cover and back. Write a short simple story and add drawings or paste photos. Make the cover of your book and punch a hole along the edge of the pages to that you can use yarn to tie the book together. See my example here.
5. Coupons.
These are dangerous as your dad may actually want to redeem them, so be careful what things you are going to write on them. Simply download this document and print them out. You can write in what the coupons are for and put your own name on it. Coupons.
